Unruly women - summer crew trail work

Summer Unruly Crew Volunteer Trail Weekend Recap

We hosted a successful Summer Unruly Women Crew event with 8 participants, including 3 from the Twin Cities and 5 from the local region.

Together, we cleared and weed whipped 1.8 miles of the Cuyuna Connector Trail, contributing over 8 hours of trail work per person. With volunteer time currently valued at $36.31/hour, that’s $2,904.80 worth of labor contributed to the trail system.

The day kicked off with coffee generously provided by Rad Gal Bike Goods, followed by tool training on weed whips and blowers. After a shuttle to the trail, crews got to work, wrapping up with a happy hour and feedback session at Cuyuna Lakes Brewery.

This was a strong showing of community, hard work, and trail stewardship. Feedback from participants included things such as how they felt empowered and more comfortable behind gas, power tools, and equipment. Most mentioned how they really enjoyed connecting with the community here in the Cuyuna Lakes area. It was great to see it all come together.

We ended the weekend with a group ride on Sunday morning in the Yawkey Unit and closed the work weekend. It was fun to hear how the participants were viewing the trail after they had just accomplished a day of trail work, and how they could see what needed to be done in a different perspective.
