Spring Iron Range Volunteer Training

Join the Cuyuna Lakes MTB Crew and GRIMBA for a volunteer training and onboarding workday designed to prepare volunteers for summer trail workdays.

Volunteers are welcome to attend the full day or just the sessions they’re interested in. Want to only come for equipment training? Totally fine. Want to stay for trail work after? We’d love that too.

Come for the training portion or stay for the full day.
No experience needed. all tools provided.

Free camping is available at Croft for volunteers (pit toilets only, no running water). TBD: Food vendor potentially on-site Saturday.

SCHEDULE & MORE INFORMATION

10:00–10:30 AM
Check-in, waivers, welcome, and overview.

10:30 AM–12:00 PM
Training sessions + equipment practice. Groups may head to the Winze dirt work project for hands-on trail work as trainings wrap up.

12:00–12:30 PM
Lunch break. Food TBD. Bringing snacks or lunch is encouraged.

12:30–2:00 PM
Afternoon trail work + continued training.

After 2:00 PM
Optional group ride or trailside hangout.

  • Breaking ruts and trail repair basics

  • Weed whipping and sightline clearing

  • Changing weed whip string/bump heads

  • Leaf blowing best practices

  • Pruning and corridor clearing

  • Trailbot reporting

  • Downed tree assessment

  • Tick and poison ivy mitigation

  • CanyCom operation discussion/demo

What to bring:

  • Tools (if you have trail tools you prefer)

  • Full, refillable water bottle

  • Bug spray

  • Close-toed shoes

  • Long pants - no leggings

Minors 17 & Under: Participants 17 and under may attend only if a parent or guardian is present during the event. Minors cannot attend alone. Participants under 18 are not allowed to use or be trained on power tools.
