TBD Spring Iron Range Volunteer Training

Join the Cuyuna Lakes MTB Crew, GRIMBA, and GRIMBA for a large-scale volunteer training workday in partnership with the DNR. This hands-on training prepares volunteers for summer trail workdays and National Trails Day on June 6. Light lunch and snacks will be provided.

FREE Camping made available for registered volunteers only.

Minors 17 & Under:
Participants 17 and under may attend only if a parent or guardian is present during the event. Minors cannot attend alone. Participants under 18 are not allowed to use or be trained on power tools.

Participants will learn trail maintenance skills including:

  • Dirt Work:

    • Breaking ruts

    • Grade reversals

    • Berm repair

    • Cutting drains/drain work + severity of drains

    • Operating Cany Com 

  • Ticks, poison ivy mitigation, etc

Corridor Clearing

  • Best Pruning Practices

  • Weed Whipping

  • Leaf Blowing

  • Hazard Tree Reporting

  • Difference between handsaw tree & chainsaw tree

  • How to identify when it's time to remove a tree before it falls

  • How to properly report

All tools provided. No experience required.

Free camping is available at Croft for volunteers (pit toilets only, no running water). A food vendor will be on-site Saturday. Sunday will wrap up with an optional group ride.
